Capital Books

Don't miss a chance to visit this charming hole-in-the-wall bookstore on K Street adjacent to The Crest Theater. So many wonderful books to explore as well as a children's book with comfortable bean bag like chairs for kids to sit in. The store also has some unique things other than books, such as tote bag, shirts, stuffed animals, amazing games and puzzles, and other little trinkets. It's so nice to find bookstores still popping up. Nothing is more comforting than flipping through the pages of a wonderful book!

Thank you to this bookstore for having Jujutsu Kaisen volume 2 so I can give it to my niece for Christmas. Downstairs is where there's fantasy books and Mangas which great for me. Staff is cool and chill. Katie was very helpful over the phone before I drove there and Julie was super nice while ringing up my purchase. Fern the doggo is my favorite worker for obviously reasons. I'll be sure to come back to this store when I can!

There are fewer things in this world that give me the same serene feeling as browsing a bookstore. Capital Books somehow finds a way to make it a little more special. The staff are friendly and helpful, and always down to chat about their recommendations. Their selection is great if you’re coming in to look around, or you can order online to pick up from the counter. I’m so glad I live in walking distance to this little treasure chest. Sam is brilliant. If you ever get a chance to read one of his recs, do it.

Sadly first and only experience here was bad. While waiting for more friends to join our group for a movie next door, 2 friends of mine and i checked it out. They greeted us and we asked about herbal, foraging and crochet books. We were ignored right off the bat. 2 employees walked right out the room. Guy was messing around on computer holding his dog. So we asked again and were give annoyed looks followed by rude help.

This is a great spot! I was able to search their inventory online and find the book I wanted, and picked it up same day. The store itself has a great selection, and don't forget to check out the basement section. They validate parking, so use the parking structure closest to it (less than a block down towards the Capitol). Definitely recommend a visit!

If I could give more stars I would, out of 10 they are 11. I adore this bookstore. The atmosphere is wonderful, the book selection is fantastic, the staff are lovely and helpful (they leave me alone when I don’t feel like chatting, and they strike up a conversation with me when I do, and they provide incredible book recommendations when I asked for books similar to a book I had just finished reading and was hung up on), and one of the most memorable compliments I’ve ever received was when one of the staff members asked to take a picture of my book selection! My sister and I have made this one of our top hangout spots of all time, we go and spend hours browsing books and then treat ourselves at the there and back again Café (run by the same owners) while reading one of our new found treasures. One day I would love to have a date night at the bookstore (which is an option!!!!) where I get to browse books, see the night lights of Sacramento. And! If I can’t make it down in person, they ship the books to me! I cannot recommend this place enough.

LOVE THIS BOOKSTORE! I discovered Capital Books during the pandemic lockdown, happily ordering books that I either ventured downtown to pick up or had them shipped/delivered to my doorstep, finally getting back to reading for pleasure. Since then I've joined a book club, and since I prefer the feel of a book in my hands, Capital Books has provided nearly all of my books. I am so glad to have such a local resource!
